Safety Tips
-
When you see an emergency vehicle with lights flashing and sirens blaring, quickly and carefully move to the side of the road. Regardless of which side they are on sometimes officers need to cut through the middle of a narrow road and require both lanes of traffic to move over.

-
When driving in icy conditions, never make sudden movements. Overcorrection is a common cause of accidents. The best way to control a vehicle on icy roads is to do so smoothly and slowly.

-
When coming upon an accident, check the condition of the people in the vehicle and call 911. It is helpful for emergency services to know as much information as possible in order to take care of the situation in a timely manner.

-
Stay alert and NEVER drink and drive. Officers have been killed while responding to emergencies due to impaired drivers. Always stay vigilant, so you are not surprised by accidents.

-
Always treat law enforcement officers with respect and kindness. These brave men and women are humans just like you and only want to help keep their community safe. When in contact with an officer, be honest and cooperative to let them do their job to the best of their ability.
